David Kerr SNP PPC
17 July 2009
So David Kerr will be confirmed as the SNP candidate for the Glasgow North East by election tonight and the local party selection meeting. Why? Because he's the only candidate...
Furious SNP sources tell me that Mr Kerr only agreed to stand if he would be put forward to tonight's meeting unopposed, fearful of another embarrassment.
There's a fair amount of sour grapes amongst those activists who backed James Dornan and they're almost convinced that the bankruptcy expose in the Sunday Herald was an inside job actioned right from the very top.
Interesting times ahead.

What a pile of pish.
Other names were put forward at a local level but the branches locally decided David was the best candidate by far and we would not go through a charade of putting up names of people who would not be up for the job.
Remind me, who did Willie Bain beat to get the Labour nomination?
Lies from start to finish.
No 'furious' SNP sources have told you anything.
You don't know any of the activists who backed James Dornan.
Your suggestion that the 'bankruptcy' expose in the Sunday Herald was an inside job actioned right from the very top casts a very unpleasant light on how the Labour Party conducts its affairs.
"Furious SNP sources" LOL!
You're not looking for a job at the Scotsman are you?
"An inside job actioned from the very top"
oh god! have the SNP gone all new Labour after only 2 years... how disappointing ;-(
Dornan wasn't bankrupt - he had a trust deed - there is huge a difference which I am sure you are aware of. I had wondered if Labour would use this against him - if you insist on calling him bankrupt then are we to presume that would have been the case?
As for "an inside job actioned right from the very top" - details on trust deeds and sequestrations are easily publicly available to all - and will come up on any hacks basic search for dirt.
Hmm,
Indy, with respect, you've no idea who I know or don't know.
Tartan Hero,
As for Willie Bain, there were several applications, three people were shortlisted and willie won.
And as for Mr Dornan's finances - that would be an appalling thing for any campaign to attempt to exploit. Labour made it very clear in the Times on the 12th of July:
Before his resignation a Labour campaign source had said: “There are plenty of things we'll be fighting this by-election on and his personal finances isn't one of them.”
Kezia with equal respect I do.
If you wish to persuade us that you have a 'mole' in the local organisation perhaps you could prove it?
No names of course.
Just get your source to tell us where and when the selection meeting took place and who chaired it.
Why does Labour keep saying Willie Bain is a local man when he teaches at a university in London?
Insideyourballs, (delightful username incidentally) - Willie Bain lives in the constituency, is the secretary of his own local party and has been for a fair wee while.
Yes - work takes him to London - but funnily enough a huge number of Scots travel over that big scary border for business every day.
I never paid much attention to the gone-but-not-forgotten Tartan Hero blog, but Grant Thoms popping up and using language like “pile of pish” certainly gives me some idea of why his candidacy was a complete non-starter.
Oh you bitter little man.
...Am sure yi kin recommend sum mare blogs likes...
